Two more weeks of WOXY

Well, this sucks. Internet radio pioneers WOXY are shutting down due to financial reasons. Read the full scoop here. In other radio news, NPR announced today that they're joining the infranet in 2007 with the launch of NPR Music Online. Oh, and the VMAs are tonight.

Daily Supertreat: Arcade Fire goes Magnetic

Who else is eager for any news about the forthcoming Arcade Fire release? No word yet on a release date, although the band announced about a month ago that they were going to produce it themselves. In the meantime, we'll have to tide ourselves over with goodies like today's supertreat. It's a cover done by The Arcade Fire of a great Magnetic Fields song. Enjoy! (Thanks Goldenfiddle).

I'll bookmark your blog if it gets good

Alright, now that I've got a few minutes I think I should introduce myself.

My name is Patrick, and I live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

I created this blog so that I could share some of the music I like, as well as talk about any other random music related stuff. This is essentially just another music blog from just another guy living in Brooklyn.

This blog is named after a song by the once-great punk band Against Me!, who have in recent years devolved into a pretty shitty commerial pop-punk band. Back in the day, however, they were fuckin' great. The song in question is called "8 Full Hours of Sleep", and rather than explain why I chose to pay homage to this particular song, I think I'll just post the mp3 and be done with it.

- Against Me! - 8 Full Hours of Sleep
Here's another Against Me! song from their classic album Reinventing Axl Rose:
- Against Me! - We Laugh at Danger and Break all the Rules

Voxtrot

After sort of forgetting about them for a little while, I'm really getting back into Voxtrot. If you like The Smiths, Belle and Sebastian or even The Talking Heads, you'll probably like these guys. Now thay they've signed to Playlouder, we should see a full-length release sometime in the next year. Here's a track from one of the two EPs they've released so far:

- Voxtrot - Wrecking Force

Also, while we're on the subject of bands I've almost forgotten about, I'll be posting a review of the forthcoming Mars Volta album. Here's a quick preview: it's not very good!
